Sunday at the Park

We went to the Belleview park and had a lot of fun in the river. Dad showed me how to skip rocks, and we played in the water! We made a little damn in the water, and built sand castles on the bank. The water was shallow and nice to wade in!
Dad and I made a moat in the sand.

My boy...my dark little one. This is my first note to you on this website. I had started one when you were first born, but didn't stick with it. Not because I ever changed my mind that you were the most perfect and journal-worthy little thing I had ever seen, but because life sometimes gets in the way of things we would like to do most. Perhaps this could be a good first lesson from me to you: be wary of letting what's really important come second. Fortunately, most of what I was preoccupied with was you. What is best in my life is seeing you set your jaw and focus on something...regardless of what it is that you might be doing. You have a quiet determination (but not too quiet) in all that you do. You are equal parts talent and stoicism. In my life I have come across many people with many talents, but all pale in comparison to the promise that I see in you. Providence smiles on the willing, and lad, when you were born it not only smiled at your mother and I, it winked as well. You can be so sweet, and so wild and so impossibly Irish, but despite your Gaelic bent, I think you get your greatest strengths from your Hawaiian heritage. You show yourself to be kind to living things that can't always express a thought or feeling. You love the mud and the grass and the water. I get the feeling that you will love a good joke equally. What a fantastic lineage--what a fantastic balance. I think of you as my dark star, and that is what I will call you when you can know what it means. You are the thing that will always shine brightest in our lives, but you will also be the thing that moves us most without our even knowing it...like a Dark Star. You and your Waihine give me a constant sense of wonderment each day, and because of this my life belongs to you.

I love you my sweet little lad.
Your Da,
RPC
